Emceeing, Dancing, & Singing?! Lina Anne Music Studio Annual Concert 2024

Upon successfully emceeing my teacher’s mini concert (proven below), I got truly tested by being a part of their annual concert! Here, they didn’t just hire me as their emcee. They hired me as their entertainer! Held at the Royal Selangor Club, I opened the concert by singing, and ended the concert with dancing, all while emceeing throughout!

Emceeing my first mini concert! Lina Anne Music Studio Mini Concert 2024

Signing up for vocal lessons led to my teacher personally requesting that I emcee their mini concert in 2024. I suppose this was their way of evaluating me because, upon successfully emceeing for them, they asked me to emcee their annual concert later that same year! That concert is right above this one!

1. What did I do well?

Danniel was excellent at our mini concert. He created a wonderful atmosphere for the audience and created a safe environment for the students to showcase their new talents. He was very entertaining and kept a positive attitude throughout the entire concert.

2. What could I have done better?

He could have gotten more information about the students (participants)

3. Please justify the score given 🙂

Being an emcee truly suits him. He is a very charming and charismatic person.

Rusty Corporate Emcee Taylor's ESG Festival 2.0

Taylor’s Education Group hosted their groundbreaking ESG Festival at their iconic Taylors Lakeside Campus. It was three days filled with various activities, one of which included a Masterclass I moderated between speakers.

From here, I gained a few learning curves. They were;

  1. Learn who gifts the token of appreciation beforehand.
  2. What to do when a chunk of the crowd leaves mid session?
  3. Ask for your event’s introduction for context!

1. What did I do well?

Danniel was charismatic. He engaged the audience, made the speakers feel welcomed, and spoke clearly. It was impressive when he improvised outside of the script after the speakers presented which gave a more "personal feeling". The speakers appeared very appreciative of Danniel's introductions. He was also diligent about keeping each presenter on schedule by slowly and respectfully approaching them as the time was near for them to wrap things up. I witnessed one of the coordinators tell Danniel after the event that he made a strong impression and many of the speakers asked who he was. Overall, Danniel created a very positive vibe in the room with his energy and sincerity.

2. What could I have done better?

Not crucial, but eventually perhaps invest in a pair of dress shoes to go with the black suit to elevate from student status to successful professional.

3. Please justify the score given 🙂

Danniel was an outstanding Master of Ceremonies with a natural gift at engaging the audience.

Emceeing & Moderating at the same time?! Monsta Learning Space

As a long time Ambassador for Monsta Asia, Founder Zhi Ee Chan talent-scouted me to be the Moderator for her Monsta Learning Space in September 2023! The event was a panel discussion amongst fellow Monsta Asia alumni talking about the ins and outs of networking professionally.

From this experience, my key takeaway as moderator was that [INSERT LEARNING HERE]

1. What did I do well?

Really enjoy having Danniel as the emcee, I like how you are having an engaging conversation with the panel as well as the audience too. Apart from the panel questions, didn't see much preparation but you did amazingly well during the day and was quite dependable and spontaneous on handling the audience and any ad hoc problems during that day. You excel at building up the fun and friendly vibes and I can fully trust you for breaking the ice.

2. What could I have done better?

Perhaps you can try training a new emcee too like how Nicklaus trains Atiqah. Would love to see that in the future!

3. Please justify the score given 🙂

Really enjoy the session, highly recommend Danniel for future emcee roles too!

4. Additional thoughts/opinions? (You can skip if none)

All the best!

My first Emcee gig outside of university! MonStar Awards 2021

MonStar Awards started in 2018 with the mission to discover & recognise young talents whose their work , story, or talent(s) influence, innovate & inspire the people and their community.

My journey with Monsta Asia began with me being in their Top 50 in their 2019 awards, then their voice over emcee for their 2020 awards, until finally becoming their physical emcee in their 2021 awards.

I was personally headhunted by their Founder, Zhi Ee Chan. Additionally, I had the absolute priveledge of co-emceeing alongside their first Monsta Ambassador, Husna Nisa.

1. What did I do well?

1) Agility to adapt on changes very quickly (Really proud of us).

2) Know how to remain calm especially when the co-emcee partner start to freak out (very crucial & you did very well).

3) Confident & really put in effort to deliver A class service.

2. What could I have done better?

1/ Learn partner’s pattern (if there will be chance to co-emcee with anyone) so can support each other better - including walk style, hosting style etc

You can definitely earn more.

My First Online Dual Emcee Experience Taylor's L.I.V.E. Club

As my reputation continued to precede me amongst the Taylorian community, I was again sought after to emcee for a club’s signature event. This time, it was to dual emcee over Zoom as the event was a livestream over Facebook Live. My biggest takeaway from this experience was learning to synchronise energies with the co-emcee to maximise online engagement.

Physical Emcee to Digital Emcee Taylor's Teaching & Learning Conference 2020

The Taylor’s Centre for Future Learning team extended an invitation for me to emcee their first ever virtual Taylor’s Teaching & Learning Conference.

This marked my initial venture into the digital emcee arena, where I began to adapt my physical emcee skills. During this experience, I honed the skill of simultaneous communication between the emcee and the organising committee.

Learning to Prepare as an Emcee Taylor's MarComm Townhall 2020

During my tenure with Taylor’s University’s Digital Marketing Team, I was asked to serve as the emcee for the MarComm Townhall dinner in 2020.

It was during this experience that I realised the crucial importance of preparation for an emcee.

Emcee Danniel's First Corporate Emcee Gig

My First Corporate Emcee Gig! Taylor's High Tea

Before my first corporate event, my emceeing style was always fun and youthful, reflecting my experience with student events. However, at this corporate gig, I initially believed I needed to tone down the liveliness and prioritize professionalism. As the event progressed, I quickly learned that being fun and professional can go hand in hand.

By the second half, I seamlessly integrated elements of fun into my professional emceeing, which proved to be a hit. This experience showed me that all events aim to be enjoyable, regardless of their nature. This marked my journey in successfully balancing fun and professionalism as a master of ceremonies.

Danniel in K4K Camp by Taylor's Community

From Volunteering to Emceeing Taylor's Community K4K

For context, Taylor’s Community organises volunteering opportunities as well as an annual Civic Camp called K4K, aimed at children from the B40 communities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Volunteers were sought to facilitate their weekly events and oversee the camp.

In my course of volunteering for them for a year and being part of their camp for both 2018 & 2019, the organisers have asked me to emcee for them for a couple of occasions.

My First Dual Emcee Experience! Taylor's University Interfaculty Games 2019

Because I emceed the 2018 IFG closing ceremony and delivered an outstanding performance, I earned a coveted invitation to emcee for the 2019 ceremony.

This time, I encountered the challenge of co-emceeing for the first time. My co-emcee was also a student, experiencing co-emceeing for the first time as well. This task marked a significant upskill challenge for both of us, as it was our first time serving as dual emcees.

Excited for the opportunity, I approached the task with confidence, believing I could adapt swiftly to the new dynamic. While I navigated the dual emceeing role with relative ease, a critical misstep hindered our performance. It’s not enough to communicate with your partner, you need to do it with team behind you too.

Reputation Across Student Organisations Taylor's TRADISI Club

As word of my vibrant emceeing style circulated, other student-led organisations sought my services, eager to infuse their events with the same infectious energy and professionalism that had come to define my reputation. In this particular instance, while they hadn’t witnessed my emceeing prowess firsthand, they had heard of my capability. Prompted by my reputation, they invited me to audition for the emcee role.

While I successfully secured the position and emceed effectively, I learned another invaluable lesson critical to emcees: to treat every event as unique and tailor my approach to each event individually.

Learning to slow down as an Emcee Taylor's Student Welfare Department

I was one of the Global Ambassadors for the Taylor’s Student Welfare Department, and part of my job was being a committee member for the Welcome Reception of the new international students. Ontop of being committee, I was also assigned the role as emcee. I did well as the emcee, but the event did reminded me of my biggest weakness, which was to slow down my speech.

Emceeing For 800+ Students Taylor's Future Movement 2019

By this point, I’ve been feeling fairly confident even to the point where I didn’t feel nervous for this gig despite the large number of audience.

However, this experience quickly humbled me as it imparted me with a couple of invaluable lessons, particularly relevant to the role of an emcee. They were (1) Less is More, and (2) Pay attention, even when it’s not your turn.

Danniel Emceeing Taylor's University Interfaculty Games 2018

My First Last Minute Emcee Experience! Taylor's University Interfaculty Games 2018

Once I was requested to be emcee just a few days prior to the event. Despite my initial hesitation, I embraced the opportunity to serve as the emcee, driven by my desire to challenge myself in handling an event with minimal preparation.

It was challenging, but I managed to pull it off. Even better, I had discovered a new technique to buy time that was still engaging for the audience: asking them questions!

Where My Emcee Journey Started: AIESEC in Taylor's University

This marks the genesis of my journey as an emcee. As a Senior Executive of AIESEC in Taylor’s University, I was approached by the Global Village Committee team to take on the role of emcee. Despite lacking prior experience in emceeing, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to contribute. Surprisingly, my performance was well-received, garnering recognition from my peers. From that point onward, I became the go-to emcee for our organization’s events at Taylor’s University from 2017 to 2019.
